Wellbeing in Newton Aycliffe - We all play a part
We all have conversations every day — with family, friends, colleagues and customers.
Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is about using these everyday conversations to support people to improve their health and wellbeing.
How to register for a MECC training session
What is Making Every Contact Count (MECC)?
MECC is a simple way to help people (friends, colleagues, family, neighbours) make positive changes to their health. It encourages short, friendly conversations that can help someone feel supported and find the help they need.
It works in three simple steps:
- Ask– Start a conversation and listen
- Assist – link a person's health and lifestyle habits to understand the benefits of making a change
- Act – Share information or point them to local support
You do not need to be an expert — just willing to have a conversation, MECC is a supportive approach for everyone!
What’s happening?
During September and October 2026, we are working partnering with Wellbeing for Life to offer free MECC training sessions for people living and working in Newton Aycliffe. You can choose training that suits you:
- face-to-face sessions in the local area or online sessions so you can join from anywhere
- you can choose from a short session of 20 mins or a core session of 90 minutes
- very little of your time is needed, we can be flexible in what we offer and offer times which to suit you
The training will help you:
- feel more confident having conversations about health
- know how to support others in a simple and positive way
- find out about services available in your community
Let's make a difference in Newton Aycliffe together
We're focusing on Newton Aycliffe because we know some people face greater health challenges than others. By working together, we can support people earlier, improve wellbeing, and help reduce health inequalities across the community.
By getting involved, you can help build a healthier, stronger Newton Aycliffe for everyone.
Join the training: Whether you work with people, run a business, volunteer, or just want to help others, MECC training is for you.
