Stanley South Pride in Place

Stanley South has been identified as a location to encourage regeneration and renewal.

Background

Stanley South has been selected as part of the government's Gov.uk: Pride in Place Programme that will see up to £20 million of investment and support over the next 10 years (from 2026) to Stanely South to make long term improvements. The area that the Pride in Place Programme covers is directly next to the smaller Strategic Place Plan area for Stanley town centre.

About the Pride in Place area

Stanley South is a welcoming and close‑knit community that blends the charm of County Durham’s heritage with a growing sense of opportunity. The area benefits from good access to local services, green spaces, and schools, making it an appealing place for families and residents who value both convenience and a strong community spirit. With ongoing local regeneration efforts and a proud tradition of community involvement, Stanley South continues to build on its strengths.

The map shows the boundary chosen for the investment by the government, and the Stanley South Board will have a chance to shape the boundary further if needed.

This area covers from North Durham Academy in the North and runs down the North Stanley Burn to the east, it continues down into Craghead in the South and up through South Moor Golf Club to west. Prominent road Durham Road B6532 runs down through the centre of the boundary.
