Shotton Colliery Community Action Scheme
We have moved into Shotton Colliery where we will be from 21 July until 3 October 2025.
We will concentrate on the following streets.
- to the north - Front Street
- to the west - Hawthorn Terrace
- to the south - Bridge Road, Brandling Court and Cullen Close
- to the east - Shotton Lane, Dene Crescent, Brackenridge, Hanover Crescent
- and all the streets within that boundary.
A map showing the area covered is below.
In the first phase of this programme, we ask local groups, residents, and businesses in the local community about what concerns they would like us to tackle together and agree on 3-4 priorities.
In the second phase on this programme we use this information to then plan and carry out 7 weeks of action.
In the final phase of this programme we ask you what impact our actions have had on the area.

Phases
Feedback and review
We hope that our actions together to improve local conditions has positive impacts on your community beyond the project time and that you experience longer term benefits. At the start of the project, we wrote to approximately 800 households in the project area asking residents to help us identify priorities that they wanted the team to tackle
During our time in Shotton Colliery we:
- focused walkabouts with partners targeting areas of concern which had been raised by residents.
- held five face-to-face resident surgeries were held along with visits to other community meetings. These featured information from partners, including topics requested by residents.
- picked up 119 issues of concern identified through walkabouts and resident reports. 19 legal notices have been served requiring owners to carry out works, with further legal notices also served by partner departments.
Working with our partners
Activities carried out with our partners include:
- the Police carried out extra patrols in the area, including along Shotton lines following reports of fires at the project start. No further issues were found on the patrols.
- 2 community litter picks have taken place in the area, arranged by Groundwork and the countryside volunteers.
- multi-agency work has taken place to improve Shotton pond. Fly tipping has been cleared, signs have been put up to prevent fly tipping and fires. Extra Warden and Fire & Rescue patrols have taken place. New safety equipment is due to be installed.
- Believe Housing have encourage residents in the Shotton area to report ASB issues, as well as a reminder about bins and rubbish disposal.
- information about illicit tobacco, cold callers and scams has been given to community groups who meet at the community hub.
Next steps
Please give us your feedback here on the work we have carried out in this review phase. The deadline for this feedback is 31 October.
Once we have your feedback, we will update this section to include a summary of your feedback.
Although the Community Action Team leave Shotton on 4 October 2025 the work of Council officers and partner agencies will continue in the area.
Additional Neighbourhood Warden patrols for fly tipping still underway and work in progress to improve the local pond and surround area. Civic Pride will be working with local schools and community groups to deliver initiatives to improve the local environment and our Public Health and Wellbeing teams are continuing their campaigns and initiatives in the area.
Our housing partners are also currently providing bin advice to their customers and we have a further community litter pick happening in October. The next Police and Communities Together (PACT) meeting will also take place in November. (see event details below)
