Easington Colliery Community Action Scheme
We have moved into Easington Colliery where we will be from 6 October 2025 until 6 February 2026.
We will concentrate on the following streets.
- Oswald Terrace to the West
- Streets to the north of Crawlaw Road
- Streets to the south of Tower Street until Allan Street
- Seaside Lane and including Welfare Close, Ascot Street, down to Boston Street and the west side of Station Road.
A map showing the area covered is below.
In the first phase of this programme, we ask local groups, residents, and businesses in the local community about what concerns they would like us to tackle together and agree on 3-4 priorities.
In the second phase on this programme we use this information to then plan and carry out 14 weeks of action as we have decided to extend our time in Easington Colliery to accommodate the Christmas period.
In the final phase of this programme we ask you what impact our actions have had on the area.

Phases
Taking Action
During this phase we take action on your priorities over a seven week period.
Following feedback from residents and our partners the priorities for this project have been agreed as:
- Improving housing standards and management of privately rented property
- Dealing with empty properties
- Rubbish that has been dumped in gardens, on streets and on waste ground being removed
- Dealing with pests / infestations in properties or on land
During the project we will hold mid-action resident surgeries. These are a chance for residents to receive updates on the project and advice on the priority topics.
Please see below details as we'd love as many people as possible to come along.
Mid-action point update - November 2025
The Community Action Team and partners are halfway through the original project period in Easington Colliery. The team have been busy tackling the project priorities of housing standards, rubbish, empty properties, and dealing with pests. We’re working on over 260 issues raised and have served 155 legal notices to help get things sorted. Thanks to everyone who’s been involved so far. Here’s some updates from the partners involved:
Housing Standards:
- The Fire & Rescue Service are working with us on the project and are currently carrying out Fire Safe and Wellbeing checks to households in the area, as well as environmental audits.
Rubbish:
- The Wardens have been working on 61 untidy yards/gardens, 2 abandoned vehicles, 2 bonfires, 3 flytipping reports and 4 abandoned bin reports. They have served 41 notices.
- The Wardens are speaking to property owners who have had recurrent accumulation problems, in order to achieve a longer term solution to the issue.
- Contaminated bins have been removed from the area.
- Street cleans have been carried out to the rear of Ashton and Ascot and Bourne and Barwick
- Letters have been sent to local landlords and agents in the area, with advice about tenancy advice. The Private Initiative team will also remind local landlords and agents of the bin and waste arrangements to pass onto their tenants.
Empty Properties:
- Economic Development are working with shops along Seaside Lane, to offer support for shop front improvements and grants to long-term vacant properties.
- Letters have been sent out to long-term empty homes to encourage them to bring their properties back into use.
Pests:
- Community Action Team and our Community Protection East Team have been carrying out pest surveys and taking enforcement action at properties where infestations have been found. There has been a good response from property owners.
- An email has been sent to licence holders on Ashton, Ascot, Bourne, Barwick and Station Road (evens) asking for their support with tackling the rodent issue found in the area.
Other:
- Scam advice has been provided to the Monday morning groups at the Paynote café, which was well received.
- Residents who filled out our engagement survey have been contacted. 8 have been provided with further information on advice topics as requested.
- We have delivered illicit tobacco posters and the new asylum leaflet to community groups in the area next week.
- Illegal Money lending leaflets and other Community Safety leaflets were distributed by the Illegal Money lending team, the Wardens, the Credit Union and Believe Housing.
